Description & Historical Context

Captured in the image WhatsApp Image 2026-07-08 at 21.00.05.jpg, this original oil on canvas painting delivers a powerful, visceral interpretation of one of Western history's most defining moments: the assassination of Julius Caesar.

Historically, on March 15, 44 BC (the infamous Ides of March), a conspiracy of Roman senators, calling themselves the Liberatores, attacked the dictator perpetuo at a Senate meeting in the Curia of Pompey. Fearing that Caesar’s absolute power would permanently destroy the Roman Republic, senators led by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus struck him down with 23 stab wounds.

This artwork masterfully bypasses traditional, idealized neoclassical depictions, choosing instead a raw, highly emotional realism. Standing out against a dark, atmospheric backdrop, Caesar is captured at the precise moment of betrayal. His face is locked in a agonizing gasp of shock, his golden laurel wreath serving as a tragic symbol of his absolute authority at the moment of his downfall.

The composition dynamically emphasizes the chaos of the ambush. The conspirators, clad in traditional Roman togas with striking crimson borders, surround him. The red streaks not only signify their senatorial status but visually foreshadow the imminent bloodshed. On the left, a conspirator crouches low, gripping a cold steel dagger, his tense expression underscoring the gravity and cold calculation of the treason.

The rich texture of the oil medium adds a profound depth to the drapery of the garments and the expressions of the figures. Housed in a premium solid wood frame with an elegant golden inner lip, this piece acts as both a dramatic historical window and a timeless study of power, betrayal, and political tragedy.
